Former model, holistic nutritionist and founder of beauty and healthy lifestyle journal, Healthy and Nourished, Helena Oun, who is based in Doha, Qatar, loves to share her fitness and wellness tips. She strongly believes in the saying, “We are what we eat”, promoting a healthy body image and empowering women all around the world. 

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO SET UP YOUR WEBSITE HEALTHY AND NOURISHED?
Healthy and Nourished was born very organically. About six years ago I made some major lifestyle changes and it had a big effect on my life. As time went on, more and more people were asking for advice to follow and apply the same changes I had made. So I decided to share my knowledge and experiences with other women. It grew quicker than I ever thought possible. When I started to receive letters from women all around the world, about how these little changes have changed their lives or how my authentic experiences have inspired them to be strong and confident in their own skin. Today, I see Healthy and Nourished as a base for a strong community of women who want to support and empower each other but also share their views and experiences. We are so much stronger together and this is something that I really strives for.

THE CHARACTERISTIC YOU LIKE LEAST IN YOURSELF
I’m really stubborn in certain areas of my life, and I know it often gets in the way. But I constantly practice patience and let the universe do the work for me.

WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG?
A fashion designer, model and professional tennis player, and of course I wanted to do it all at once.

YOU’RE VERY OUTSPOKEN WHEN IT COMES TO A HEALTHY BODY IMAGE. WHAT’S YOUR VIEW?
As a model I went through a lot of body image issues, and I had some profound experiences when it came to the body image norm in our society. I worked in the fashion industry for about 10 years, and it makes me so happy to see how the industry has changed and society is accepting different body types now. I believe all women should be accepted as they are and there should not be any body image standards. Women are such powerful beings and every woman should be celebrated. Most important is to be active, have a balanced diet and love yourself. Our imperfections are often what makes us perfect in a way.

WHAT’S THE BEST ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN?
The only thing that makes you rich in life are travel experiences. Those will always stay with you and are something no one can ever take away from you. Those experiences will make you grow and are the most valuable currency you have.

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY WORKING ON?
Currently I’m working on a big project in the health and fitness industry in Doha, Qatar.

HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH CRITICISM?
It depends, if it comes from people I work with and who are coming from a place where they want see me to grow and improve… in that case, I’m always ready to hear how I can better myself. But if criticism comes from strangers and social media, I couldn’t care less…just ignore, block them and move on.

HOW DO YOU KEEP FIT?
I believe that everything needs to be in moderation. I live a very active lifestyle in general and I always try to find time for my workouts, yoga and three healthy meals a day.

FAVORITE EXERCISE
These days I love long walks, yoga and a good 45 minutes in the gym a few times a week.

Right now I’m obsessed with Nike’s latest collection and Lululemon as always.

Mediterranean islands.
