A 360-degree body and soul awakening at the Hurawalhi Maldives Duniye Spa
The perfect destination for honeymooners and romantics, Hurawalhi Island Resort in the Maldives might be most famous for its 5.8 Undersea Restaurant and its sister property Kudadoo Maldives Private Island, but it also makes for a great wellness haven. Its blissful Duniye Spa overlooks the crystal clear waters, and each spa room boasts a terrace where guests enjoy footbath rituals completely immersed in serenity and nature. Large al fresco bathtubs allow you to while away the time as you absorb the beautiful scenery, and you can even admire the resort’s romantic sand bank, gleaming in the far distance.
Duniye means “universe” and the name symbolizes its approach to wellness, offering treatments inspired by ancient and modern expertise from around the world. The Duniye Spa draws on the healing traditions of Asia and Africa, exclusively using chemical-free, organic, high-quality products from Healing Earth and locally produced coconut oil, whilst taking inspiration from traditional cultures. The spa menu offers therapeutic massage treatments to provide a deep sense of calm and relaxation, as well as restorative body scrubs, sound healing, reiki, reflexology, yoga and more.
My spa journey starts with a meditation and singing bowl session at the Tree Top Tranquility Lounge above the spa reception, led by the group spa director of Duniye Spa, Renate Hermes, herself. It is the perfect venue as you take in the ocean vistas, absorbing the sea’s turquoise color and the blue skies. There’s a light breeze too, giving you that sense of freedom and that feeling of being on the beach without actually being exposed to the heat. Taking it all in, I let myself drift away as I follow Renate’s words, and completely relaxed and uplifted by the healing sounds of the singing bowls I let go of the chatter in my mind and anything that doesn’t serve me anymore.
After the healing meditation, I head downstairs for my two-hour Maldivian Island Paradise treatment, a top to toe signature ritual, which uses 100% organic and freshly ground coconuts for the body polish. The scrub is then followed by a hair mask and Indian head massage, and the treatment concludes with a muscle ease massage with coconut oil.
My therapist, who has an Ayurveda background, tunes into my body with total ease and is able to focus on my tight spots without having to ask many questions. Feeling safe and completely nurtured in her hands, I release all the tension I’ve been holding on to and doze off for the second half of the treatment. Once awake again, I feel overly relaxed and at ease.
After the treatment I head back to the spa lounge for a deliciously healthy and light lunch, taking in the breathtaking vistas one more time.
Duniye Spa at Hurawalhi Island Resort is the perfect place where sensual indulgence and wellbeing meet, and where ancient healing traditions are fused with modern beauty needs.
