Four Seasons New York Downtown

Straddling Tribeca and the Financial District of Manhattan, the Four Seasons New York Downtown is an oasis of calm in the hectic city

OVERVIEW

The 100th hotel in the Four Seasons portfolio, Four Seasons New York Downtown takes up the first 24 storeys of the 82-storey 30 Park Place building that was built from the ground up to accommodate it. It is home to 161 guest rooms and 28 suites. The rest of the building is comprised of 157 Four Seasons private residences.

While guests can only look out from the 24th floor, the birds-eye view of the New York City below is arguably more interesting than the detail-free, city-wide panoramas available from the upper floors.

DESIGN

Four Seasons Hotel New York Downtown, which shares the same city block as the iconic Woolworth Building, is a slender and elegant tower designed by renowned architecture Robert A.M. Stern. Interiors, designed by Yabu Pushelberg, are luxurious (marble, travertine, European oak), and rich but in somewhat muted and neutral tones that overall give a calming feel to rooms.

OPULENCE IN THE CITY

When it comes to luxurious living, the Four Seasons is famous. For those who really, really like their space, the Four Seasons Downtown Royal Suite should suit your needs. At 2,400 square feet, it takes up half of the 24th floor and has been home (temporarily at least) to all manner of celebrities and dignitaries. Practically speaking, the single bedroom has a king bed with a full master bathroom (with beautiful bathtub), while the dining room can easily accommodate 10 people comfortably. With a full kitchen, the suite is routinely used for catered dinners and events. There is also a media room, beautiful mid-century furniture, a fireplace, and a guest bathroom.

POOL

The 75-foot indoor three-lane lap pool is part of the hotel’s wellness area and is a tranquil oasis in the heart of manic Manhattan.

WHAT WE LOVE

  • Location, Location, Location. Nothing in Manhattan is really that far away, but being just one block from the World Trade Center and walking distance from Soho, the Meatpacking District and Battery Park is pretty convenient.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

  • If awards and accolades are meaningful to you, you’ll like that the hotel received the AAA Five Diamond Rating within its first year and the Forbes Travel Guide Five Star Rating within the first 18 months of operation. A relatively unprecedented scenario.

WELLNESS

The seven-room spa, which includes a couple’s suite, currently carries Dr Burgener, Omorovicza, Red Flower and Soveral products and features an outdoor terrace and sundeck.

The fitness centre is located on the third floor and has large windows with views of the Oculus and the World Trade Center.

WHEN YOU SHOULD GO

As one of the world’s greatest cities, New York has something for everyone every month of the year. Christmas and New Year are two of the more busy times of year.

GETTING IN

Four Seasons New York Downtown is easily accessible from all three of New York’s international airports – 30 minutes from LaGuardia, 40 minutes from Newark Liberty, and 50 minutes from John F. Kennedy.

RATES

Rates range from US$495 to $12,000 a night, depending on room and season.
