OVERVIEW
Set among the nationally protected terraced landscape of Mù Cang Chải in Lao Cai Province, Garrya Mù Cang Chải is part of Banyan Group. Mountains rise around the resort while rice terraces cascade across the valleys below, a landscape shaped over generations by the local Hmong community. The area remains closely tied to farming seasons, traditional crafts, and mountain life, giving the resort a strong sense of place beyond its dramatic views.
The architecture follows the contours of the mountainside, with bamboo used throughout alongside patterns inspired by traditional Hmong textiles. The 110-room resort is Vietnam’s Largest Bamboo Architecture Resort, recognised by World Records Union, and is EDGE Certified Green. Its design favors light, open space, natural materials, and a sense of simplified living that carries through the guest rooms, public areas, and wellness spaces.
Nature also changes the experience throughout the year. Winter brings the pink Tớ Dày blossoms; spring brings plum and Ban flowers; the water season transforms the terraces in late spring and early summer; summer turns them lush green; and autumn brings the golden harvest.
WELLNESS
Wellbeing at Garrya begins with simple daily habits: restful sleep, mindful movement, balanced nutrition, and time spent in nature. This philosophy runs through 8LEMENTS Spa, where treatments are guided by Banyan Group’s eight pillars of wellbeing: Growth, Practice, Connection, Nourishment, Groundedness, Movement, Rest, and Mindfulness. The spa has six double treatment rooms and uses locally inspired therapies designed to restore energy and balance.
Treatments draw on Asian healing practices, local ingredients, and herbal traditions. The Hydro Wellbeing Area extends the experience with infrared saunas, contrast plunge pools, rain mist walks, herbal steam, and vitality-focused hydrotherapy. ReCharge Gym adds cardio, strength, and calisthenics equipment, as well as a dedicated studio for yoga, meditation, and stretching.
Wellness also moves beyond the treatment room. The activity programme may include yoga, Qigong, meditation, aqua sound baths, functional training, trekking recovery, and sessions at the Herbs & Growth Hub. A series of holistic wellbeing workshops explores plant-based nutrition, women’s health, herbal remedies, sleep, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and ways to understand the body through Eastern health traditions.
Sleep receives particular attention. Garrya’s Sleep Ritual uses a series of evening bathing practices to help the body settle before bed. Options include Himalayan mineral salts with botanicals, a warm forest-herb bath rooted in Red Dao traditions, floral and mountain honey infusions, citrus-based relaxation rituals, and warming ginger and botanical baths.
DINING
Refresh is the resort’s all-day dining restaurant, with panoramic views across the mountains and terraces. Its menu focuses on nutritious Vietnamese and international dishes prepared with fresh, locally sourced and seasonal ingredients, while high ceilings and bamboo-inspired details allow natural light and mountain air into the space.
Dinner takes a different direction at Charcoal Grill, where an open kitchen serves flame-grilled Western, Asian, and Vietnamese dishes using locally sourced ingredients. BZen Pool Bar keeps things lighter with lunch, fresh juices, and kombucha, while the Lobby Lounge serves Vietnamese coffee, afternoon tea, healthy elixirs, fresh local juices, and artisanal kombuchas. Underground Sport Bar adds a more social option in the evening with cocktails, light bites, and music.
Food is also part of the activity program. Guests can learn about Vietnamese coffee, make Khau Pha salmon noodles in a cooking class, join a Healthy Mixology Workshop, or take part in a Vegan & Vegetarian Nutrition Workshop.

HMONG CULTURE
The landscape surrounding Garrya Mù Cang Chải carries a long Hmong history. For centuries, local communities have lived across these mountains, with daily life shaped by nature, farming seasons, and traditional craftsmanship. The rice terraces themselves form part of that heritage, created and cultivated by generations of Hmong people and now recognized as part of Vietnam’s National Heritage landscape.
That connection carries into the resort itself. Hmong-inspired textile motifs appear throughout the interiors, while activities give guests a closer look at local language, crafts, and everyday traditions. Experiences may include Hmong language sessions, beeswax drawing, fabric weaving demonstrations, village visits, and time spent exploring the surrounding landscape, offering a more grounded introduction to a culture that remains closely tied to the land.
