In 2012, Belgin Askoy, one of our Destination Deluxe Awards judges, launched her dream of celebrating a day dedicated to wellness. The main aim of this special day is to pause and think, to recognize the value of our lives, to be free from the stress of everyday city life and bad habits, to make peace with ourselves and to raise awareness about living well and increase motivation for more than just one day of the year. This year, Global Wellness Day will be celebrated on Saturday, June 11, 2022.
Marking the 11th annual Global Wellness Day, following 2020’s never-before-done 24-hour free livestream celebration and 2021’s very successful 12-hour free livestream celebration in the face of the pandemic, this year’s special day will be celebrated mainly with in-person activities, workshops and talks across the globe incorporating the theme – #ThinkMagenta.
An idea that rose amidst the negativity in the world, #ThinkMagenta is a reminder with a positive effect on life. This year 130 Global Wellness Day ambassadors, key supporters, advisors and volunteers will work together to change people’s lives in a positive way and to add color to their thoughts.
FREE ACTIVITIES AROUND THE WORLD
Numerous Global Wellness Day ambassadors around the world have organized free activities such as yoga and Pilates classes, sound healing baths, tai chi, qigong, meditation, laughter therapy sessions, mental health assessments, nutrition seminars and much more to help raise people’s spirits.
Among other international brands, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, Banyan Tree Hotel Group, Zulal Wellness Resort, Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts, Accor Hotels, are again supporting Global Wellness Day, making it a part of their corporate-wide wellness highlight.
3-HOUR LIVE STREAM
In addition to the above activities, there will be a free three-hour live stream celebration featuring world-renowned wellness experts, performers and athletes. The line-up includes famous plant-based Chef Matthew Kenney, as well as industry figures such as Susie Ellis, chair and CEO of the Global Wellness Institute and Global Wellness Summit, and Destination Deluxe Awards judge; Anna Bjurstam, wellness pioneer Six Senses & Raison d’Etre; and Jeremy McCarthy, group director of spa and wellness of Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group.

A GLOBAL EVENT
Since its inception, the event has grown from being celebrated in one country to being observed in 170 countries in thousands of locations. Senegal, the Czech Republic, Algeria, Jordan, Guiné-Bissau and Zambia will be celebrating Global Wellness Day for the first time.
“During the pandemic, having the world realize the importance of what we have pioneered 11 years ago with Global Wellness Day is truly indispensable,” says Global Wellness Day Founder Belgin Aksoy. “GWD 2022’s theme, Think Magenta, is not about being optimistic – it is about being realistic. Things happen in our lives and we have the choice to call them good or bad things. Sometimes difficulties, failures or illnesses become the greatest teachers. No matter what is happening, we can always find a way to choose joy. In this respect, although Global Wellness Day lasts for 24 hours, our message is intended to last a lifetime.”
Look for the hashtag #globalwellnessday and #thinkmagenta to follow what happens around the globe on June 11.
