Philosophia Botanica and ELE|NA Bring Asian Healing Traditions to Modern Skincare

Through a new collaboration with ELE|NA, Philosophia Botanica is bringing its botanical science closer to the landscapes, growers, and traditions that have long shaped wellness across Asia

Luxury spa experiences in Asia have often been shaped by wellness concepts developed elsewhere. Philosophia Botanica and ELE|NA are taking a different approach. Their collaboration begins with the belief that the region’s own healing traditions, plant knowledge, and relationship with nature should sit at the center of the modern spa experience.

Philosophia Botanica was founded by Chinese medicine practitioner Francesca Canzano-Franklin. The brand is known for treatments and formulations that combine traditional healing systems with botanical science. Its products are already used at leading spa destinations, including Four Seasons Hotel London at Park Lane, Kempinski, Anantara, and Six Senses Rome.

Now, the brand is expanding its work in the region through a purpose-built laboratory in India. The facility was created in partnership with Atmosphere Wellness, whose ELE|NA spa and wellness brand operates across the Maldives and India. ELE|NA will deliver the treatments across its network of properties, supported by 150 trained therapists.

The collaboration brings together two brands with a shared view of wellness. Both place provenance, sustainability, and personal care at the heart of the experience. Both also see nature as more than an inspiration. It is the foundation of how ingredients are grown, formulas are developed, and treatments are carried out.

At the center of this work is a clear idea: the future of luxury wellness in Asia should draw from the region’s own knowledge and express it with the precision and craft expected of a modern luxury spa.

Inside Philosophia Botanica’s New India Laboratory

India was chosen as the home of Philosophia Botanica’s regional laboratory for a reason. The country has one of the world’s oldest plant-based wellness traditions and offers close access to many of the botanicals used in the brand’s formulas.

These include ashwagandha and bakuchiol from the Indian subcontinent, Centella asiatica from South and Southeast Asia, and schisandra berry from East Asia. Rather than treating these plants as isolated ingredients, the laboratory builds each formula around a wider system of botanical knowledge.

Its work follows the Five Elements framework of traditional Chinese medicine: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. Each product is linked to one of these elements, and the framework guides the laboratory’s extraction and infusion methods. The Five Elements are therefore not simply used as a theme. They directly influence how the formulations are made.

The laboratory also reflects Philosophia Botanica’s focus on provenance. Ingredients are sourced through ethical networks, often from local and family-owned farms. Extraction methods are designed to reduce waste while preserving the strength of each botanical compound. Packaging is also being adapted for the needs of Asian and Middle Eastern markets.

This local approach extends to community relationships. Philosophia Botanica describes its sourcing model as a connection with the land, the growers, and the culture behind each ingredient. The new laboratory carries this philosophy into the brand’s regional operations.

For ELE|NA, this is a natural fit. Its spa and wellness philosophy is built around four pillars: Nature-Centric Enlightenment, Sustainable Spirit, Zeal for Wellness, and Wellness for All. These ideas guide how the brand creates personal spa journeys across its properties in the Indian Ocean.

Together, the two brands are developing an approach in which regional knowledge, responsible sourcing, and refined treatment design support one another.

Philosophia Botanica and ELE|NA Signature Facial Treatments

The collaboration is introduced through two signature facial treatments. Both draw from Eastern healing traditions and use adaptogenic botanical formulas made at the India laboratory. Each treatment also begins with a consultation, allowing the therapist to consider the guest’s skin condition and the deeper patterns that may affect it.

The Cellular Gold Facial Ritual by ELE|NA Elements of Nature, OZEN LIFE MAADHOO

The Cellular Gold Facial Ritual

The Cellular Gold Facial Ritual is described as a form of botanical biohacking. It combines Chinese medicine, cellular science, adaptogenic plant oils, and magnetic tools in a treatment designed to support radiance, vitality, and facial definition.

The ritual begins with a grounding foot ceremony, followed by a personal facial consultation. Gold-coated micro-magnetic pearls are then placed on meridians and acu-beauty points across the face. Their purpose is to stimulate tissue activity, support microcirculation and oxygenation, and encourage the flow of blood, lymph, and Qi.

A gold-coated magnetic pen is used to work along the facial meridians, while a sculpting spoon supports lymphatic drainage and helps release deeper fascial tension. The treatment is designed to soften the look of wrinkles, plump the skin, and create a natural lift that can build over time.

Throughout the ritual, the therapist applies a blend of adaptogenic botanical oils. These formulas are intended to support the skin’s own collagen and elastin production while enhancing circulation through the face, head, and neck.

The hero product used in the ritual is the Antioxidant Face Oil. Made at the India laboratory, it centers on organic rosehip oil and contains essential fatty acids and beta-carotene. The formula is designed to soothe, nourish, and restore radiance without leaving the skin heavy.

During the facial, the oil is paired with magnetic stimulation. Philosophia Botanica states that this helps its bioactive compounds reach deeper layers of the skin, strengthening the effect of the treatment. Guests may also continue using the oil at home to extend the ritual beyond the spa.

ELE|NA - Eastern Longevity Facial - Destination Deluxe

The Eastern Longevity Facial

The second treatment, the Eastern Longevity Facial, is rooted in a Qi-restoring practice used across East and Southeast Asia for centuries. Its purpose is to smooth the skin, release stagnation, and restore the free flow of Qi along the body’s meridian pathways.

The treatment uses bespoke Gua Sha tools made from jade, bian stone, and rose quartz. As with the Cellular Gold Facial, it opens with a foot ceremony, followed by a consultation and detailed skin mapping. The therapist looks at the skin’s present condition as well as areas where tension, poor circulation, or stagnation may be held.

Long strokes are then performed along the facial meridians and acu-beauty lines. The sequence is designed to reach deeper tissue, improve circulation, support natural collagen production, calm inflammation, and even the skin tone over a course of treatments. The aim is to help the face look clearer, brighter, and more rested.

The Botanical Qi Face Serum is the hero product for this ritual. It combines schisandra berry, ashwagandha, gotu kola, rhodiola, peony root extract, and bakuchiol. The formula is designed for mature or depleted skin and helps support collagen production, strengthen the skin’s natural defenses, calm inflammation, and reduce visible signs of aging.

It is also made to be used with the bespoke Gua Sha stones. At home, the serum can continue the lifting, firming, and tone-evening work of the treatment.

Botanical Skincare in Asia- Philosophia Botanica x ELE|NA

A New Approach to Luxury Wellness in Asia

The significance of this collaboration goes beyond the launch of two facials and their accompanying formulas. Its strength lies in how each part of the experience is connected.

The ingredients come from the landscapes and plant traditions of Asia. The laboratory sits closer to the farms and communities that supply them. The formulas follow a working system based on the Five Elements. The treatments are rooted in meridian work, Qi, Gua Sha, and other practices with deep regional histories. ELE|NA’s therapists then bring those ideas into a highly personal spa setting.

This creates a form of luxury that remains connected to the source of the experience. The final treatment is shaped by the land, knowledge, and people behind it, giving equal value to the plant, the grower, the laboratory, the therapist, and the guest.

For Philosophia Botanica and ELE|NA, regenerative beauty is about more than visible results. It also involves strengthening the connections between skin and health, science and tradition, and local knowledge and modern craft.

Their collaboration makes those connections tangible. It shows how the region’s healing heritage can shape a modern luxury wellness experience from the ground up.
