A luxurious tented lodge is taking glamping to the next level at this Leopard safari hot spot in Sri Lanka
Situated on a secluded beach on the edge of Yala National Park, the 28 uniquely designed cocoon-like tents offer the comfort of a luxury resort married with the excitement of a safari adventure. The luxe air-conditioned Cocoons come with their own plunge pools. Dotted around five watering holes designed to attract a variety of birdlife and amphibians, the wildlife can be viewed from the comfort of each Cocoon’s outdoor viewing deck. The family Cocoons come with a fun adjoining twin-bed ‘urchin’ tent for children.
The bamboo-clad bar and restaurant serve daily changing menus, and a delicious picnic can be devoured during the safari experience. Wild Coast Tented Lodge also boasts a Sanctuary Spa offering an array of natural wellness treatments, while the library also serves as an educational centre where guests learn about the surrounding wildlife through documentaries, further explained by the lodge’s expert guides.
The resort’s unique design, masterminded by a consortium of Dutch, English and Sri Lankan designers, blends seamlessly into the landscape due to its use of natural materials. The fabric and bamboo allow the tents to take on the shape and color of the rocks that lay scattered nearby, while the layout in the shape of a leopard’s paw alludes to the area’s elusive resident. The resort is set to open in October 2017.
